Today we are making a winter hats and mittens craft for kids that is super cute and a great way for kids to learn shapes. Preschoolers and kindergartners will have a blast coloring, cutting, and gluing these hats and mittens together.
These adorable hats and mittens are a easy winter craft for kids, keeping them busy whether in the classroom or at home with mom or dad. Plus I’ve included a free printable with all the shapes needed to make these.

To begin, you will need to gather a few supplies. Here is what you will need:
- White Cardstock or Construction Paper
- Crayons or Markers
- Cotton Balls
- Yarn or String
- Hole Punch
To make this craft easy, I have included a free printable with all the shapes needed to make the hats and mittens. Scroll down to the bottom of this post to get access to the Free Resource Library. Once you have downloaded the free printable, print it out and cut out the shapes.
Once all the shapes are cut out, kids can begin coloring the triangles and the rounded mitten shapes.
After coloring, you can then begin assembling the shapes. Glue the rectangles to the bottom of the triangles, and the circles to the top. For the mittens, glue the rectangles to the bottom of the mittens. Then glue on the thumb pieces.
Once the hats and mittens have been assembled, the cotton balls can be glued on.
Finally, using a hole punch, put a hole at the top of each hat and mitten. Then hang on your yarn or string to display your winter hat and mittens garland.
