Today we are making a winter hats and mittens craft for kids that is super cute and a great way for kids to learn shapes. Preschoolers and kindergartners will have a blast coloring, cutting, and gluing these hats and mittens together.

How to Make Winter Hats and Mittens Craft for Kids

To begin, you will need to gather a few supplies. Here is what you will need:

Cutting out Paper

To make this craft easy, I have included a free printable with all the shapes needed to make the hats and mittens. Scroll down to the bottom of this post to get access to the Free Resource Library. Once you have downloaded the free printable, print it out and cut out the shapes.

Coloring with Crayons

Once all the shapes are cut out, kids can begin coloring the triangles and the rounded mitten shapes.

After coloring, you can then begin assembling the shapes. Glue the rectangles to the bottom of the triangles, and the circles to the top. For the mittens, glue the rectangles to the bottom of the mittens. Then glue on the thumb pieces.

Gluing Paper Together

Once the hats and mittens have been assembled, the cotton balls can be glued on.

Finally, using a hole punch, put a hole at the top of each hat and mitten. Then hang on your yarn or string to display your winter hat and mittens garland.

Make a Winter Hats and Mittens Kids Craft

A super cute and easy winter craft for kids

Materials

  • White Cardstock or Construction Paper
  • Cotton Balls
  • Yarn or String

Tools

  • Printer
  • Scissors
  • Crayons or Markers
  • Hole Punch

Instructions

  1. Download the free Winter Hats and Mittens shapes printable and print out on cardstock or construction paper.
  2. Cut out all the shapes.
  3. Using crayons or markers, color the triangles and the rounded mitten shapes.
  4. After coloring is done, assemble the pieces by gluing the rectangles to the bottom of the triangles, and the circles to the top of the triangles. Then glue the smaller rectangles to the bottom of the mitten pieces. Finally glue on the thumb pieces to the sides of the mittens.
  5. Once the glue has dried, you can begin gluing the cotton balls on the tops and bottoms of the hats and the bottom of the mittens.
  6. Using a hole punch, punch one hole in the tops of each hat and mitten.
  7. Finally, using yarn or string, thread the hats and mittens on to the garland.
