DIY Halloween Treat Bag Toppers with Cute Animal Clipart

A tiny ghost bunny, a pumpkin-costumed fox, and a raccoon wrapped up as a mummy—these little characters are ready to help dress up your Halloween treats!

Our Cute Chibi Halloween Animals clipart collection brings a cozy, storybook feel to Halloween crafting. In this easy project, you’ll use your favorite designs to make folded paper toppers for treat bags. They’re a sweet finishing touch for Halloween party favors, gifts for neighbors, or little surprises for friends.

What You’ll Need

  • Cute Chibi Halloween Animals clipart from Huckleberry Hearts
  • A design program that lets you place images and text
  • White cardstock compatible with your printer
  • A printer
  • Scissors or a paper trimmer
  • Double-sided tape
  • Treat bags and individually wrapped treats
  • Optional: a ruler and scoring tool for neat folds

1. Measure Your Treat Bags

Measure the width of your bags before creating your layout. Your topper should be the same width as the bag or slightly wider.

For example, a bag that’s 4 inches wide could use a topper measuring 4 inches wide by 4 inches tall. Once folded in half, it will have a 4-by-2-inch front and back.

Try folding a piece of scrap paper to that size first. It’s an easy way to check the fit before printing.

2. Design the Front of Your Topper

Create a rectangle at your chosen size and mark the halfway point horizontally. That line will become the fold.

Place your artwork and greeting in the bottom half of the rectangle. This section will be the front when the top half folds behind the bag.

Choose one animal for each topper so the design has room to shine. A few cute combinations to try:

  • Ghost bunny: “A Little Boo for You!”
  • Pumpkin fox: “Happy Halloween!”
  • Mummy raccoon: “Wrapped Up in Sweetness!”
  • Witch kitten: “Have a Purr-fect Halloween!”

Keep the background white to show off the watercolor artwork, then add a narrow burnt-orange, muted-purple, or charcoal border. Leave a little space between your design and the cutting edges.

3. Print and Trim

Arrange several toppers on one page, leaving space between them for cutting. Print a test on plain paper to check the size, placement, and greeting.

When everything looks right, print on white cardstock using a setting appropriate for your paper. Choose actual size or 100% scale if you need to preserve the measurements.

Trim around each rectangle with scissors or a paper trimmer. There’s no need to cut around the animals themselves, which makes this an approachable Halloween paper craft for beginners.

4. Fold Your Toppers

Fold each rectangle in half horizontally, keeping the artwork on the front.

For a cleaner fold, lightly score the center line first using a scoring tool and ruler. Press the fold flat so the topper sits neatly over the bag.

If children are helping, adults can handle trimming and scoring while little crafters choose the characters and fill the bags.

5. Fill and Finish Your Treat Bags

Add your individually wrapped treats, leaving enough room at the top to close the bag.

Seal the bag, then position the folded topper over its top edge. Use double-sided tape inside both halves to secure the cardstock to the outside of the bag.

Now your simple treat bag has a handmade Halloween finish!

Make a Mix of Halloween Characters

You can use the same layout for every bag and swap out the animal and greeting. The collection’s warm colors and detailed costumes help the finished favors feel coordinated, even when each one features a different character.

For a non-candy version, fill bags with small age-appropriate goodies such as stickers, erasers, or mini crayons. You could also personalize the toppers with names for a Halloween party.

A Little Handmade Halloween Fun

These DIY Halloween treat bag toppers are a simple way to turn a few supplies into something thoughtful. Make a handful for friends or spend an afternoon creating a whole basket of cute Halloween party favors.
